Dr. Robert W. Peters received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Iowa State University and currently serves as a Professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He joined the environmental engineering faculty as an Associate Professor of Environmental Engineering in fall 2001. He was promoted to full Professor in the fall of 2004. He is a registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Illinois and Indiana and is currently pursuing his PE registration in Alabama. He is a past chair of AIChE’s Environmental Division, has twice served as its director, and currently is division secretary. He was an invited keynote speaker addressing GIS and drone technology use to monitor/assess system health performance at the 9th Alexandria International Conference on Structural and Geotechnical Engineering, Alexandria, Egypt, in 2016. He currently serves as Guest Editor for a Special Issue on Hazardous Waste Treatment in the journal Applied Sciences. His research activities mainly focus on environmental sustainability. He also has research projects addressing energy conservation and treating diesel emissions from mobile sources.
