Information

Leszek A. Kleczkowski is Professor (from 2003) at the Department of Plant Physiology, Umeå University, Sweden. Previously, he was an Associate Professor at the same Institution (from 1994). Between 1990-1994, he was a project leader at the Norwegian Research Council, Aas, Norway. He graduated in plant physiology at the University of Warsaw, Poland (M.Sci. in 1977) and, in 1985, earned a Ph.D. degree at the Dept. Biochemistry, University of Missouri, Columbia, USA. He spent 1 year as a postdoc at the Dept. Biochemistry, Univ. Missouri, and 2 years as a postdoc at the Dept. Botany, Washington State University, Pullman, USA. He was also an Assistant Professor at the Dept. Plant Physiology, Warsaw Agricultural Univ., Poland. In 1993, he defended his habilitation thesis in plant biology at the Faculty of Biology, University of Warsaw. His research area (over 130 publications) has covered the characterization and regulation of enzymes/proteins/genes involved in plant primary metabolism, including photorespiration, starch and sucrose formation, and nucleotide metabolism. His other interest is the role of nutrients (e.g., magnesium) in plant biology.
