Background/Aims: The transcription cofactor limb-bud and heart (LBH) is involved in embryonic development. However, its role in human lung cancer, especially lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD), remains unclear. Methods: A public database and tissue microarray (TMA) were used to compare differences in LBH expression and its relationship with clinical characteristics. Tissue from an additional 70 LUAD patients with follow-up records was used to explore the correlation of LBH expression with prognosis. Cellular and molecular studies validated the role of LBH in LUAD growth and invasion. Results: LBH was significantly down-regulated in lung cancer tissue samples and was correlated with the prognosis and clinical characteristics of lung cancer patients based on a public database and TMA. Survival analysis revealed that LBH-negative expression was associated with poor overall survival of LUAD patients (P = 0.021). Cox regression analysis showed that LBH expression status was a favorable independent prognostic factor (hazard ratio = 0.120, 95% confidence interval = 0.016–0.894, P = 0.039). LBH knockdown accelerated LUAD cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. Furthermore, bioinformatics analysis indicated that LBH was significantly related to the cell adhesion pathway. Western blot analysis confirmed that LBH could regulate the expression of integrin family members (integrin-α1, integrin-α2, integrin-α4, integrin-αv, and integrin-β4). Conclusion: Our data suggest that LBH plays an important role in lung cancer. Importantly, LBH is an independent prognostic factor in LUAD and can attenuate cell growth and invasion. LBH may be a potential prognostic biomarker in LUAD patients.

Although many previous studies have reported the relationship between GSTP1 rs1695 gene polymorphism and myelosuppression induced by platinum-based drugs, the conclusions are not consistent. The aim of the study is to evaluate the association between granulocytopenia and thrombocytopenia induced by platinum-based drugs and GSTP1 rs1695 gene polymorphism by meta-analysis. A literature search was performed using the Pubmed, Embase, CNKI, and Wanfang databases, and the odds ratio (OR) and its 95% confidence interval (CI) were used to evaluate the correlation. Finally,12 case-control studies comprising 1657 patients were included in our study. GSTP1 rs1695 gene polymorphism showed a significant correlation with granulocytopenia induced by platinum-based drugs (dominant genetic model: OR=1.60, 95% CI=1.19. 2.15, P=0.002; recessive genetic model: OR=3.72, 95% CI=1.73, 8.00, P=0.001; allelic genetic model: OR=1.76, 95% CI=1.34, 2.33, P=0.001). This gene polymorphism is not associated with thrombocytopenia (OR=0.87, 95% CI=0.47, 1.60, P=0.649). False-positive report probability showed that the association between polymorphism and adverse reactions is true. Sensitivity analysis showed that the results were stable. However, there was a certain publication bias in the included studies. In conclusion, the GSTP1 rs1695 gene polymorphism is associated with granulocytopenia induced by platinum-based drugs.

Background: With the emerging information and communication technology, the field of medical informatics has dramatically evolved in health care and medicine. Thus, it is crucial to explore the global scientific research landscape on medical informatics. Objective: This study aims to present a visual form to clarify the overall scientific research trends of medical informatics in the past decade. Methods: A bibliometric analysis of data retrieved and extracted from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database was performed to analyze global scientific research trends on medical informatics, including publication year, journals, authors, institutions, countries/regions, references, and keywords, from January 1, 2011, to December 31, 2020. Results: The data set recorded 34,742 articles related to medical informatics from WoSCC between 2011 and 2020. The annual global publications increased by 193.86% from 1987 in 2011 to 5839 in 2020. Journal of Medical Internet Research (3600 publications and 63,932 citations) was the most productive and most highly cited journal in the field of medical informatics. David W Bates (99 publications), Harvard University (1161 publications), and the United States (12,927 publications) were the most productive author, institution, and country, respectively. The co-occurrence cluster analysis of high-frequency author keywords formed 4 clusters: (1) artificial intelligence in health care and medicine; (2) mobile health; (3) implementation and evaluation of electronic health records; (4) medical informatics technology application in public health. COVID-19, which ranked third in 2020, was the emerging theme of medical informatics. Conclusions: We summarize the recent advances in medical informatics in the past decade and shed light on their publication trends, influential journals, global collaboration patterns, basic knowledge, research hotspots, and theme evolution through bibliometric analysis and visualization maps. These findings will accurately and quickly grasp the research trends and provide valuable guidance for future medical informatics research.

This study aims to investigate the relationship between vitamin intake and the occurrence of dental caries. This study was a retrospective study that collected data from the National Health And Nutrition Examination Survey database from 2011 to 2018. The number of dental caries teeth was determined using the Radike AW. Criteria for diagnosis of caries (1968), and vitamin consumption data were obtained through face-to-face interviews. Logistic regression analysis was used to explore the association between dental caries and vitamins, and variables with P < .1 in the univariate analysis were selected for multivariate logistic regression analysis. Clinical prediction models were constructed for variables with P < .05 and were internally and externally validated to assess the predictive ability of the models. This study included 4221 subjects (2215 training, 2006 validation), with vitamin C (47.6%), vitamin K (19.4%), vitamin B12 (14.2%), and vitamin D (11.3%) demonstrating the highest intake proportions. Logistic regression identified age, education, vitamin D, and vitamin K as predictors of dental caries, while the clinical model exhibited consistent moderate predictive performance across both datasets. Results remained stable after variable incorporation, confirming model reliability. Our findings suggest an association between vitamin D intake and vitamin K deficiency with dental caries; however, further prospective studies are warranted to confirm causal mechanisms.
