Luigi Catacuzzeno is an Associate professor of Physiology in the Department of Chemistry, Biology and Biotechnology, University of Perugia, Italy. His research has been mainly focused on the ion channels of biological membranes, their structure-function relationships, and their contribution to the electrophysiological properties of various types of cells. He has paralleled his electrophysiological studies of ion channels with a modeling approach of the cell membrane potential and intracellular ion dynamics. More recently, he was involved in the study of gating and permeation in ion channels using a multi-scale approach, whereby the parameters of mean field theories were taken from all-atom molecular dynamics simulations. His scientific output includes 73 publications, corresponding to 1678 citations (h-index 24) (Scopus, 8 November 2023).
