Steve Brenner is an expert in atmospheric sciences and physical oceanography. He holds a B.S. in meteorology and physical oceanography from the City College of New York (1975) and doctorate in meteorology from MIT (1981). For 18 years he served as the head of the Department of Physical Oceanography at the National Institute of Oceanography in Haifa. Since 2003 he has been a professor in the Department of Geography and Environment at Bar Ilan University. His main research focuses on the ocean circulation of the Mediterranean Sea, the Gulf of Eilat, and the Dead Sea. He also studies the atmospheric circulation over the Mediterranean region towards the goal of understanding the influence of the Mediterranean Sea on the seasonal rainfall and on the development of extreme storms through the use of regional atmospheric models. He has served on various local and international advisory boards and review committees.
