Hülya Caner, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor in the Department of Marine Geology and Geophysics at the Institute of Marine Sciences and Management, Istanbul University. She received her Ph.D. in Marine Sciences, focusing on the impacts of urbanization on forest ecosystems using palynological and dendrochronological methods.
Her research specializes in palynology (modern and fossil pollen), Quaternary paleoecology, paleoclimatology, and multi-proxy environmental reconstruction. She integrates pollen analysis with sedimentology and geochemical proxies to investigate Holocene climate variability, vegetation dynamics, and human–environment interactions in the Mediterranean and Anatolia.
Dr. Caner has authored over 90 scientific publications and actively participates in international research collaborations and peer-review activities. Her work contributes to understanding long-term climate–vegetation relationships and environmental change.
Research Interests: Palynology; Quaternary paleoecology; Paleoclimatology; Environmental reconstruction; Sediment analysis; Climate–vegetation interactions.
