Biography

Professor Nawaz specializes in the genomics, transcriptomics, and metabolomics of crop plants to understand the mechanisms of growth and development and stress tolerance. He is currently a professor at National Research Tomsk State University, Russia, where he leads the English-taught Master of Science in Bioinformatics program. His international research career spans institutions in South Korea and Russia in collaboration with Pakistan, China, Turkey, France, and Greece. His work focuses on understanding how legumes (soybean, chickpea, and common bean) and Siberian medicinal plants (like blue honeysuckle) respond to environmental stresses such as heavy metal toxicity, drought, and salinity. Dr. Nawaz employs advanced techniques including genomics, transcriptomics, and metabolomics to uncover stress tolerance mechanisms. He is a prolific author with over 80 publications, approximately 3,900 citations, and an h-index of 28. His research appears in journals like the International Journal of Molecular Sciences and Genomics, and he has received awards from the Korean Society of Crop Science and the Genetics Society of Korea.
