J.A. graduated with a degree Chemistry from the University of Cádiz (UCA) in June 1991 and received a Ph.D. degree from UCA in 1996. Her thesis focused on the search for fungicides against the phytopathogenic fungus Botrytis cinerea and included work carried out at Professor Hanson's laboratory at the University of Sussex (U.K.) in 1995. Also, J.A. completed a postdoctoral fellowship lasting one year and three months between 1997 and 1999 at Professor Fuganti's laboratory at Politecnico di Milano (Italy). During this time, J.A. focused on biocatalytic methods for producing bioactive molecules, particularly flavors. The author's research interests encompass the synthesis of bioactive natural products through biocatalytic methods, specifically biotransformations, and the evaluation of their biological activities. This interest is also extended to the study of the secondary metabolism of filamentous fungi as a source of compounds with interesting biological activities.
J.A. is currently a full professor in the Department of Organic Chemistry at the University of Cádiz. The author supervised a doctoral thesis that received the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry (RSEQ) Award for the best Doctoral Thesis on Natural Products in 2013. From an institutional perspective, she held the position of Academic Secretary of the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Cádiz from 2015 to 2019. Currently, she is the Deputy Head of the Organic Chemistry Department at the same university.
