Dr. Eva Untersmayer

Assoc.-Prof. Eva Untersmayr-Elsenhuber, MD, PhD is a specialist in clinical immunology and, in addition to her position as a group leader at the Institute of Pathophysiology and Allergy Research (Medical University of Vienna), she also works in a medical practice where she cares for patients with immunological diseases. Together with her research group, she is primarily focused on the role of the gastrointestinal tract, in allergy and various inflammatory and other immune-mediated diseases. Of particular interest to the group's research is the mucosal barrier, which not only protects the body from dangerous pathogens but also plays a crucial role in nutrient absorption and can selectively trigger the immune response.
