Jeong-Geol Na is the associate professor of the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Sogang University and serves as vice director of CGRC (C1 Gas Refinery R&D Center) in Korea, supported by the National Research Foundation of Korea.
Prior to joining Sogang University in 2017, he was a principal researcher at the Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER) since 2004. He also headed the Biomass and Waste Energy Laboratory of the institute from 2013 to 2016 and played a role in the continued development of a bio-based circular economy.
Prior to his work at KIER, Na was a senior researcher at STR Biotech. Co. during 2001-2004, where he developed immobilized continuous processes for biopharmaceutical production.
Prof. Jeong-Geol Na’s scientific background is in biochemical engineering, especially in bio-process design and optimization. He focuses on analyzing the complicated behaviors of microbial cells in bioreactors and designing and optimizing novel systems based on the quantitative description of the process. His team conducts research, including monitoring critical metabolites in the cells, off-gas analysis, kinetic modeling, reactor design, and scale-down approach. Using these tools, his team is developing a bio-process for green chemicals from C1 gas such as methane and carbon monoxide. He co-authored 94 publications in international peer-reviewed journals (H-index: 35), and 39 patents have been registered.
