Biography

Dr. Roi Ben-David Department of Vegetables and Field Crops Roi Ben-David earned his M.S. in field crops from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and a Ph.D. in plant genetics from the Institute of Evolution in Haifa. Since completing his postdoctoral studies in cereal host--pathogen genetics at Zurich University in 2012, he has held the position of a research scientist with the Institute of Plant Science at Agricultural Research Organization, the Volcani Center. His research focuses on wheat research and breeding that combine both field studies and advanced genomic breeding tools, with particular emphasis on the genetic makeup of yield, biomass productivity, and other agronomic traits that can be tested directly in the field. Roi also runs a winter cereals breeding program, which focuses mainly on bread wheat, but also includes durum wheat, emmer wheat, spelt, barley, triticale, and oat. Research outcomes are, in many cases, pre-breeding materials, which are streamed directly to our breeding program.
