Ana Paula Carvalho (APC) studied chemistry at the University of Lisbon (UL) where she obtained her PhD (1996). Currently she is Associated Professor at the Faculty of Sciences of UL being responsible for several teaching units related to materials, adsorption and catalysis. APC's research interests are focused on the preparation and modification of porous materials, namely activated carbons and zeolites. As well as characterization by different techniques, with a great emphasis in the textural characterization through physical adsorption techniques, the materials are tested for different purposes. Activated carbons are explored as adsorbents of pharmaceutical compounds in aqueous media and zeolite-derived solids as catalysis for petrochemical processes or Friedel Craft acylation of several substrates. The studies developed resulted in 150 publications in international peer-reviewed journals with an H-index of 42, 16 book chapters and 70 oral communications (with 6 invited keynotes) and more than 250 posters in national and international conferences. APC has supervised 6 Pos-Doc, 6 PhD and 26 MSc projects.
