Prof. Dr. Federico Berti is an Associate Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Trieste. He obtained his Ph.D. in Chemistry at the University of Ferrara. He is a bioorganic chemist, and his main interest is in the recognition processes that lead to bio- and biomimetic recognition of small molecules. Prof. Dr. Berti has studied hapten–antibody interactions in antibody catalysis, enzyme–inhibitor interactions in proteases, human albumin as a source of bioreceptors for sensing purposes, biomimetic materials as imprinted polymers, and short, designed peptides. Applications of his research interests involve the development of new inhibitors of proteases and the design and preparation of biosensing materials for the detection of natural products and drugs.
