Biography

Dr. Emanuele Scifoni acquired his PhD in Genoa. After an education and initial career mostly based on molecular quantum physics and astrophysics, with theoretical and computational methods, since he transferred to the Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies (FIAS) in 2007, he focused his research interests on the biophysical modelling of ion beams for hadron therapy. Dr. Scifoni further expanded this research when moving to the Biophysics Department of GSI - Helmholtz Center for Heavy Ions Research in Darmstadt in 2010. Additionally, he took on intense work on ion track structure simulations, dosimetry modelling, and experimental verification of ion beam irradiations. At GSI, he was deputy of the modelling group, led by Michael Kraemer. His work substantially contributed to novel implementations of the research treatment planning software TRiP98. Since 2016, he has been Primo Ricercatore at TIFPA-INFN in Trento. He is a Contract professor at the University of Trento and has received the national habilitation as both an Associate and Full professor in Applied Physics. He is currently the principal investigator of the Call MoVe IT, the largest radiobiology project at INFN.
