Sergio Andò works at the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, University of Milano-Bicocca, Italy. He is interested in sedimentary archives and heavy-mineral studies, to reconstruct the source rocks and provenance of detritus from land to the deep ocean. His work requires the development of new protocols for the preparation and analysis of silt and sand samples in the laboratory. He is interested in coupling classical optical methods by microscopy with the innovative use of Raman spectroscopy, deciphering the mineralogy of sedimentological archives. He studies modern sediments, applying this knowledge to investigate ancient deposits and the climate in the past. He loves to collaborate with researchers working on microplastic pollution in modern sediments, on the impact of human activities on natural environment and on exploitation of geo-resources in our planet.
