Introduction: The aim of this research is to find coping strategies for dealing with stress among caregivers who look after a chronically ill family member and to assess which of the most common emotions they are experiencing. Methods: We used a standard 28-item questionnaire Brief COPE (Carver, 1997) with Likert scale with values of 6-1 and standardized Variety habitual emotional, subjective well-being in this study (Džuka, Dalbert, 2002). The questionnaire was distributed by nurses who care for ill relatives in the Home Care Agency. We used descriptive statistical methods. Results: Exploratory data includes answers from 30 respondents, who were caregivers of a patient with chronic illness at home. The average age of respondents was 66.3 years + 4,5, ranged between 56 and 71 years old. Concerning the custodies, these were the most often the life partners - husband / wife (63 %). The average length of treatment was half a year - year (27 %). Top active strategies for coping with stress were: planning, instrumental social support, acceptance, religiosity, emotional support, with the average from 4,65 to 4,27. The least used coping strategies were humor and drug use. Respondents experienced more frequent negative than positive emotions - pain with average 4,30, sadness 4,24, fear 4.23,Conclusion: The study shows that the caregivers can select an active strategy to help them overcome difficulties while taking care of the sick. When assessing emotional survival, we found out that respondents had negative emotions.

Introduction: Burnout syndrome can significantly affect the work performance of physicians, nurses and other healthcare workers, as well as their approach to patients. It can also increase the incidence of work errors and mistakes. Risky workplaces include, in particular, departments of surgery, neurosurgery, neurology, orthopedics, traumatology, geriatrics, and intensive care units. Objective: To determine which category of healthcare workers is most at risk of burnout syndrome and what are the negative effects of burnout syndrome on communication and providing information to patients of an older age category. Material and methodology: The research method was a narrative review, using which review papers, research with qualitative and quantitative methodology and meta-analyses were selected and analyzed. The total number of documents was 16. The time range was 10 years. Results: The analysis revealed that physicians, nurses, and healthcare assistants are most at risk of burnout syndrome. Risk factors include low financial compensation, staff shortages, and increased workload, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Burnout negatively impacts to empathy, the quality of interpersonal relationships, and information provision to older patients. Lack of information impairs digital and health literacy, as well as patient´s compliance. Conclusion: The implementation of preventive measures must be approached responsibly, as the syndrome has a negative impact not only on communication and interaction with patients, but also on the overall quality of care and the occurrence of adverse events in healthcare facilities. In some studies, it also has an impact on the turnover or departure of healthcare workers.

Objectives: The aim of the research was to determine the level of navigation in the system in the health care system as one of the domains of health literacy in patients with arterial hypertension. The research was carried out within the framework of the KEGA project No. 010KU-4/2022 Implementation of elements of support for health literacy of the adult population into education in the field of nursing. Material and methods: The research group consisted of 391 respondents with arterial hypertension. The respondents were aged from 20 to 88 years, the average age of the respondents was 53.41 years. The research group included 207 (52.94%) women and 184 (47.06%) men. Data collection was carried out using the Slovak version of the standardized measurement tool Health Literacy Questionnaire (HLQ) based on the HLQ™ license agreement. Results: Healthcare system navigation is the seventh of the nine domains of the HLQ and is examined by six items. We recorded a mean score of 3.3 out of a possible 5 for respondents. We further examined the influence of respondents’ age, gender, education, and place of residence on healthcare system navigation. Using an ANOVA test at a significance level of 0.05, we found that age is a significant factor in healthcare system navigation. Gender does not affect the ability to navigate the healthcare system, as verified by a t-test of two means with equal variances. An ANOVA test at a significance level of 0.05 was used to examine the influence of education. Based on the F and Fcrit values, we recommend concluding that education has a significant influence on healthcare system navigation. Place of residence also affects the ability to navigate this area, as verified by a t-test of two means with unequal variances. Our findings show that city dwellers are better versed in the healthcare system than people living in the countryside. Conclusion: Navigating the healthcare system is an important area in the context of both prevention and treatment. A low score on domain 7 in the HLQ assessment tool means that people at this level have no one to advise and help them on how to use the healthcare system. They also have difficulty understanding what is available in the healthcare system and what they are entitled to. Conversely, a high score on the domain indicates that people are able to find out what services they are entitled to in the healthcare system and use them. They are able to justify why it is to their advantage in the healthcare system.

Background: Post-stroke depression (PSD) is one of the most common neuropsychological complications following stroke and is associated with greater functional disability and poorer functional outcomes. However, the relationship between self-reported depressive symptoms and functional independence remains insufficiently understood. The aim of this study was to examine the association between self-reported depressive symptoms and functional independence in patients in the chronic phase after stroke and examine selected sociodemographic and clinical factors associated with depressive symptom severity. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The sample consisted of 105 patients (64.75 ± 11.23 years) assessed 6–24 months after stroke. Functional independence was evaluated using the Functional Independence Measure and Functional Assessment Measure (FIM + FAM). Self-reported depressive symptoms were assessed using the Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS). Spearman correlation analysis and multiple linear regression were applied. Results: A significant positive correlation was identified between total FIM + FAM score and depressive symptom severity (ρ = 0.479, p < 0.001). Significant associations were also observed for motor (ρ = 0.475, p < 0.001), cognitive (ρ = 0.447, p < 0.001), and EADL domains (ρ = 0.544, p < 0.001), with the strongest relationship found in EADL. After adjustment for sociodemographic and clinical factors, total FIM + FAM was not independently associated with depressive symptom severity (B = 0.032, p = 0.079), and neither were its individual domains. Social status remained independently associated with depressive symptom severity, with patients living alone reporting lower depressive symptom scores. Conclusions: Functional independence was positively associated with depressive symptom severity in bivariate analyses but not after adjustment for sociodemographic and clinical factors. Social status remained independently associated with depressive symptom severity, highlighting the complex interplay between functional, social, and psychological factors after stroke.
