Cátia Moreira de Sousa (CMS) holds a Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Coimbra (2011) and a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, with a specialization in Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy, from the same institution (2021). She is currently an Assistant Professor at the School of Health and Human Development of the University of Évora and an integrated member of the Comprehensive Health Research Centre. During her doctoral studies, CMS focused on the pharmacological screening of small molecules capable of modulating chronic low-grade inflammation, as well as on elucidating their mechanisms of action. Her research led to the identification of a novel activator of SIRT1, an enzyme with a key role in age-related chronic diseases. She continues to pursue research in this field. CMS is the author or co-author of 17 indexed publications and has been actively involved in the supervision and training of doctoral, master’s, and undergraduate students. In addition to her academic and scientific work, she has developed skills in entrepreneurship and was awarded an EIT Health Doctoral Innovation Fellowship in 2018. She is also a co-founder of ProtexAging, a venture focused on developing a new therapeutic approach for age-related diseases. The project has received two innovation awards: Arrisca C – Business Idea (10th edition) and Born from Knowledge – Idea 2019 (Health category).
