In this research, it was aimed to evaluate the effect of emergency department history on health literacy level and the role of digital literacy. A total of 454 participants were subjected to survey including health literacy scale, the digital literacy scale, and the demographic information form. Participants were divided into 2 groups as emergency medicine service (EMS) history (n = 269) and no EMS history (n = 185) groups. Health literacy, attitude, cognitive, and total digital literacy level of EMS history group were significantly higher than no EMS history group ( P < .05). Social dimension of digital literacy scale was significantly higher in no EMS history group ( P < .05). In no EMS history group, health literacy was significantly correlated with attitude ( r = 0.298; P < .01), technical ( r = 0.157; P < .01), cognitive ( r = 0.369; P < .01), social ( r = −0.302; P < .01) dimensions, and total score of digital literacy ( r = 0.213; P < .01). In EMS history group, health literacy was significantly correlated with attitude ( r = 0.553; P < .01), technical ( r = 0.488; P < .01), cognitive ( r = 0.555; P < .01) dimensions, and total score of digital literacy ( r = 0.514; P < .01). Digital literacy had significant and positive effect on health literacy for all participants (OR = 0.126; P < .01), no EMS history (OR = 0.059; P < .01) and EMS history group (OR = 0.191; P < .01). People’s health literacy skills are positively impacted if they have ever received medical attention from EMS units, regardless of the reason. Furthermore, among those who have used emergency medical services in the past, the impact of digital literacy on health literacy is statistically substantially larger.

This research aimed to examine the effectiveness of artificial intelligence applications in asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) outpatient treatment support in terms of patient health and public costs. The data obtained in the research using semiotic analysis, content analysis and trend analysis methods were analyzed with strengths, weakness, opportunities, threats (SWOT) analysis. In this context, 18 studies related to asthma, COPD and artificial intelligence were evaluated. The strengths of artificial intelligence applications in asthma and COPD outpatient treatment stand out as early diagnosis, access to more patients and reduced costs. The points that stand out among the weaknesses are the acceptance and use of technology and vulnerabilities related to artificial intelligence. Opportunities arise in developing differential diagnoses of asthma and COPD and in examining prognoses for the diseases more effectively. Malicious use, commercial data leaks and data security issues stand out among the threats. Although artificial intelligence applications provide great convenience in the outpatient treatment process for asthma and COPD diseases, precautions must be taken on a global scale and with the participation of international organizations against weaknesses and threats. In addition, there is an urgent need for accreditation for the practices to be carried out in this regard.

Objectives In this restrospective and cross-sectional study, it was aimed to analyze the time-dependent change in mortality due to liver hydatid cysts in a multicenter and multivariate manner over 25 years. Methods In the study, 213 files of patients with liver Hydatid cysts underwent surgery in multicenter between 1993 and 2018 were retrospectively included. The mortality rate in patients was reported as 11.7%. Gender, age, cyst stage, number of cysts, localization, maximum cyst diameter, latex and albendazole use, comorbidity, early and late complications, mortality, hospitalization and follow-up periods of the patients were analyzed. Results Age mean, right localization and cardiovascular disease (CVD) frequency parameters were significantly higher in mortality group (p < 0.05). Follow up duration was significantly higher in living group (p < 0.05). Mortality was significantly correlated with age (r = 0.375; p < 0.01), localization (r = − 0.153; p < 0.05), CVD (r = 0.264; p < 0.01) and follow up duration (r = − 0.262; p < 0.01). According to year controlled partial correlation analysis, mortality was only significantly correlated with age (r = 0.301; p < 0.05). Cox regression analysis results showed that effects of age (B = 0.093; p < 0.01), right localization (B = 2.215; p < 0.05) and left localization (B = 2.704; p < 0.05) on mortality were significant. Survival function for mortality showed that about first 100 days after surgery were important for mortality. After 200 day, cumulative survival trend was more stable than before. In left localized cyst, about first 500 days after surgery is important for mortality. In right and segment localized patients, first 1000 days after surgery is important for mortality. Conclusion According to the results of multicenter and 25-year experience in patients with hydatid cysts, the causes of mortality did not change significantly over time, and only age and localization were found to be important factors. Although there have been improvements in environmental hygiene and risk factors over time, their effects on disease-related mortality were found to be insignificant.

Objectives Obesity is related with several sleep disorders and affects the quality of life. In this research it was aimed to evaluate the effects of bariatric surgery on sleep disorders and sleep quality. Methods The study was conducted on 454 patients who underwent bariatric surgery at the Departments of General Surgery of Üsküdar University, Hitit University, Ondokuz Mayis University, and sleep disorders were evaluated at University of Health Sciences Erenköy Mental and Nervous Diseases Training and Research Hospital, Department of Neurology. Sleep quality of the patients, reporting complaints about sleep. was assessed with the Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI), risk of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome was questioned with the Berlin Sleep Questionnaire (BSQ), excessive daytime sleepiness was screened with the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS). The Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) was used in patients who identified insomnia and the restless legs syndrome severity scale (RLSS) index was also evaluated in patients with the complaints of RLS before and after the bariatric surgery. Results Among 454 patients, 207 of them (45.6%) have informed complaints about sleep. After bariatric surgery, all scores indicating impaired sleep quality (BSQ category 1 and category 2, RLS index, ESS, PSQI, ISI) decreased significantly in patients (p = 0.000). BSQ- scale scores had the greatest decrease among other scales. Patients also reported fewer complaints of sweating, sexual dysfunction, gastroosephageal reflux, teeth clenching, dry mouth, morning headache, nocturia, and daytime sleepiness after the surgery (p < 0.05). The decrease in body mass index (BMI) was significantly correlated with BSQ-OSAS total (r=-0.143; p < 0.05), RLS (r=-0.410; p < 0.05) and PSQI sleep latency (r = 0.174; p < 0.05). However, the correlation between BMI reduction and ESS, PSQI and ISI scores was found statistically insignificant. (p > 0.05). Effect of BMI difference on BSQ-OSAS was statistically significant (OR=-0.041; p < 0.05). Effects of BMI difference (OR=-0.490; p < 0.05) and having thyroid comorbidity (OR=-24.752; p < 0.01) on RLS were also statistically significant. Conclusion Bariatric surgery has a positive and healing effect on sleep apnea and restless legs syndrome in favor of this group of patients.

The aim of this study is to examine the economic and non-economic factors affecting financial statement fraud by using annual data in the period from 2011 to 2023, concerning individuals and legal entities registered with the Capital Markets Board of Türkiye (SPK). The results of the Generalized Linear Model (GLM) indicate that economic factors such as GDP, inflation (INF), government spending (GOV), and income inequality (GINI) all play significant roles in influencing financial statement fraud and the penalties associated with it. Political stability and perception of corruption also have an important impact. These results support several hypotheses related to the effects of economic and social factors on financial statement fraud. Specifically, an increase in national income (GDP) is found to reduce the occurrence of fraud, while exchange rate fluctuations (EXR), income inequality (GINI), and the perception of corruption (CPI) are found to be positively associated with increased fraud cases and penalties.
