Prof. Laura Trovato obtained a degree in Biological Sciences in 2002, a Specialization in Microbiology and Virology in 2005, and a Doctor of Research (PhD) in Microbiological Disciplines in 2009. She was a fixed-term researcher (under art.24, paragraph 3, letter a, L. 240/10), SSD/MED 07 from 2019 to 2022. She was a research fellow at the University of Catania from 2011 to 2016. She spent a period in the Mycology sector of the Department of Morphological Diagnostics, Microbiology, Molecular and Blood Diseases of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart of Rome, acquiring molecular identification techniques for pathogenic fungi. She has been invited as a speaker to numerous National Scientific Congresses and ECM refresher courses dealing with topics related to medical mycology. Since 2018, she has been a member of the study committee for mycology (COSM) of the Association of Italian Clinical Microbiologists (AMCLI), and, since 2022, she has been a member of the multidisciplinary working group on Frontier Microbiology (GLAMIF) of the AMCLI. Since 2021, she has been Secretary of the School of Specialization in Microbiology and Virology (medical and non-medical areas). She is a member of the Italian Society of Microbiology (SIM), Italian Clinical Microbiological Association (AMCLI), Italian Federation of Human and Animal Mycopathology (FIMUA), European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID), International Society for Human & Animal Mycology (ISHAM).
