Pre-trained Vision-Language Models (VLMs) utilizing extensive image-text paired data have demonstrated unprecedented image-text association capabilities, achieving remarkable results across various downstream tasks. A critical challenge is how to make use of existing large-scale pre-trained VLMs, which are trained on common objects, to perform the domain-specific transfer for accomplishing domain-related downstream tasks. In this paper, we present an image-text paired dataset in the field of remote sensing (RS), RS5M, which has 5 million RS images with English descriptions. The dataset is obtained from filtering publicly available image-text paired datasets and captioning label-only RS datasets with pre-trained VLM. These constitute the first large-scale RS image-text paired dataset. Additionally, we present GeoRSCLIP by fine-tuning or applying Parameter-Efficient Fine-Tuning methods to the CLIP model using RS5M. Experimental results show that our proposed dataset is highly effective for various tasks, and our model GeoRSCLIP improves upon the baseline or previous state-of-the-art model by 3% ~ 20% in Zero-shot Classification (ZSC) tasks, 3%~6% in Remote Sensing Cross-Modal Text–Image Retrieval (RSCTIR) and 4% ~ 5% in Semantic Localization (SeLo) tasks. Dataset and models have been released in: https://github.com/om-ai-lab/RS5M.

Edge computing (EC) is now emerging as a key paradigm to handle the increasing Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices connected to the edge of the network. These IoT devices are enabled to fulfill complex tasks effectively. Nevertheless, it also brings challenges in trustworthiness management. The volatile environment will make it difficult to comply with the service-level agreement (SLA), which is an important index of trustworthiness declared by these IoT services. In this paper, we first encode the state of the service provisioning system and the resource allocation scheme and model the adjustment of allocated resources for services as MDP. Based on these, we get a trained resource allocating policy. The trained policy can always maximize the services' trustworthiness gain by generating appropriate resource allocation schemes dynamically according to the system states. A series of experiments show that the system using our approach has 21.72% better performance at least compared to baselines.

With the ever-increasing requirements of delay-sensitive and mission-critical applications, it becomes a popular research trend to incorporate edge computing in the Internet of Things (IoT) to mitigate the pressure of traditional cloud-based IoT architecture. Edge computing delivers real-time computations and communications for IoT devices by leveraging edge servers deployed close to users, which creates a collaborative edge computing (CEC) paradigm. The capacity of edge servers is beneficial but risky, as vulnerable servers can be exploited to conduct surveillance or perform other nefarious activities. Besides, fake IoT devices would bring security threats and compromise the IoT system. This highlights the necessity of designing a secure and efficient mutual authentication scheme for CEC. In this direction, related works have proposed various authentication mechanisms, but most of them are found unfit due to the absence of decentralization, anonymity, and mobility. Motivated by this fact, we propose a blockchain-based mutual authentication scheme that bridges these gaps. Specifically, blockchain, certificateless cryptography, elliptic curve cryptography, and pseudonym-based cryptography are integrated into our scheme to provide mutual authentication between edge servers and IoT devices. Except for static conditions, both intraedge and interedge authentication are considered. Besides, we elaborate on the key generation procedures and design a session key negotiation mechanism. Extensive experiments and security analyses have been conducted to show the feasibility of the proposed scheme.

Due to the ubiquity of missing data, data imputation has received extensive attention in the past decades. It is a well-recognized problem impacting almost all fields of scientific study. Existing imputation algorithms differ in problem settings, model selection, and data evaluation. There is a lack of systematic comparison study among imputation algorithms. In this paper, we survey this interesting and evolving research topic by broadly reviewing and experimentally comparing the state-of-the-art missing data imputation algorithms. We analyze and categorize 19 imputation algorithms. Extensive experiments over 15 real-world benchmark datasets are conducted under various settings of data types, missing mechanisms, missing rates, dataset/model parameters, as well as the post-imputation prediction task. We shed light on a series of constructive insights on imputation algorithms to tackle imputation problem in real-life scenarios. Moreover, we put forward promising future directions for data imputation problem.

Edge computing is booming as a promising paradigm to extend service provisioning from the centralized cloud to the network edge. Benefit from the development of serverless computing, an edge server can be configured as a carrier of limited serverless functions, in the way of deploying Docker runtime and Kubernetes engine. Meanwhile, an application generally takes the form of directed acyclic graphs (DAGs), where vertices represent dependent functions and edges represent data traffic. The status quo of minimizing the completion time (a.k.a. makespan) of the application motivates the study on optimal function placement. However, current approaches lose sight of proactively splitting and mapping the traffic to the logical data paths between the heterogeneous edge servers, which could affect the makespan significantly. To remedy that, we propose an algorithm, termed as Dependent Function Embedding (DPE), to get the optimal edge server for each function to execute and the moment it starts executing. DPE finds the best segmentation of each data traffic by exquisitely solving several infinity norm minimization problems. DPE is theoretically verified to achieve the global optimality. Extensive experiments on Alibaba cluster trace show that DPE significantly outperforms two baseline algorithms in makespan by 43.19% and 40.71%, respectively.

Self-Admitted Technical Debt (SATD) refers to technical debt that is introduced intentionally. Previous studies that identify SATD at the file-level in isolation cannot describe the TD context related to multiple files. Therefore, it is more beneficial to identify the SATD once a change is being made. We refer to this type of TD identification as “Change-level SATD Determination”, and identifying SATD at the change-level can help to manage and control TD by understanding the TD context through tracing the introducing changes. In this paper, we propose a change-level SATD Determination mode by extracting 25 features from software changes that are divided into three dimensions, namely diffusion, history and message, respectively. To evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed model, we perform an empirical study on 7 open source projects containing a total of 100,011 software changes. The experimental results show that our model achieves a promising and better performance than four baselines in terms of AUC and cost-effectiveness. On average across the 7 experimental projects, our model achieves AUC of 0.82, cost-effectiveness of 0.80, which is a significant improvement over the comparison baselines used. In addition, we found that “Diffusion” is the most discriminative dimension for determining TD-introducing changes
