Biography

Giuliano Ciarimboli studied Biology at Pisa University (Italy) and was a scholarship holder at the Institute of Clinical Physiology of the Italian Research Council (Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, CNR). The University of Hannover (Germany) awarded him a Ph.D. degree in natural sciences. In 2001, he joined the group of Prof. Schlatter (Experimental Nephrology at the Münster Universitary Clinic, Germany). Dr Ciarimboli currently holds the position of Professor at the Medizinische Klinik D, Exp. Nephrologie at Universitätsklinikum Münster, located in Münster, Germany. His research interests include the regulation of organic cation transporters and their interaction with drugs. In particular, he has studied the cellular processing of organic cation transporter 2 and its role in mediating the uptake of cisplatin and its toxicity in renal proximal tubular cells and in hair cells of the cochlea. He has published around 70 original refereed research papers, 11 peer-reviewed reviews, 5 book chapters and has served as editor of the book “Organic Cation Transporters: Integration of Physiology, Pathology, and Pharmacology”, Springer International Publishing (doi: 10.1007/978-3-319-23793-0, 2016). He has organized three international symposia on transporters for organic cations. Dr Ciarimboli is currently teaching Physiology for Pharmacy students at Münster University (Germany).
