Scorpion stings remain a serious health problem in many parts of the world. There is very limited information regarding the effects of therapies delivered for scorpion stings in pregnant women on the mother and fetus. They can cause acute conditions such as fetal loss, preterm delivery, or placental abnormalities and can also result in other conditions that may have an effect on the baby in the long term. In this study the medical records of 24 pregnant women who were admitted to the emergency room at Suruç State Hospital due to scorpion stings between January 1, 2013 and January 1, 2014 were retrospectively reviewed. Age, gestational week, monthly distribution of the cases, type of delivery, status of the fetus, affected body sites, and local and systemic findings were evaluated. The clinical severity of each case was assessed using Abroug's classification. A fetal biophysical profile test was administered in pregnant women above 24 weeks of gestation. The newborns underwent follow-up for mental and motor functions in the pediatric department at three-month intervals for 12 months. 24 patients, with a mean age of 26.1 ± 2.4 years, were included in the study. The most common region stung by scorpions was Lower extremity (58.3%). The most common symptom occurred in cases was immediate localized pain (58%). In terms of gestational age, 41.6% of scorpion sting were within the third trimester. Biophysical profile scores were 8 and above. Only symptomatic treatment, without use of anti-venom, was done to all the patients in this study. And neither death nor major sequel happened. Scorpion stings during pregnancy may not have significant adverse effects on the fetus and the mother. Decisions regarding the use of anti-venom in pregnant women should be considered carefully when only limited safety information, especially in those patients with only local symptoms.

Background and Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of myoinositol (MYO) and α-lipoic acid (ALA) supplementation on hormonal and metabolic markers in women diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Materials and Methods: A retrospective case–control study was conducted with 58 women aged between 18–40 years who met the Rotterdam criteria for PCOS. The case group (n = 29) received MYO (2000 mg/day) and ALA (400 mg/day) supplements, while the control group (n = 29) did not receive any treatment. Data on the subjects’ anthropometric measures, glycemic indices, sex hormones, and lipid profiles were collected. Results: The results demonstrated that, following three months of MYO + ALA supplementation, the case group exhibited steady body weight (p = 0.484) and BMI (p = 0.405), whereas the control group demonstrated a significant increase in both (p = 0.029; p = 0.026, respectively). A stratified analysis based on BMI, waist circumference, and waist-to-height ratio revealed that HbA1c (%) was significantly lower in the “normal” subgroup compared to the “risky” subgroup within the case group (p < 0.05). Although the mean HbA1c, insulin, and HOMA-IR values were comparable between the two groups, the LH/FSH ratio significantly increased in the control group (p = 0.010). No significant differences were observed in the lipid profiles between the two groups; however, LDL levels decreased significantly in the case group (p = 0.024). Across all classifications, the “normal” subgroup consistently exhibited lower HbA1c and TG/HDL ratios than the “risky” subgroup. Conclusions: Adding MYO + ALA supplementation to standard PCOS treatment may offer metabolic benefits, particularly in maintaining glycemic control, body weight, and BMI. Supplementation also reduces LDL.

OBJECTIVE: Seasonal and environmental temperature changes may affect semen analysis results. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of seasonal changes on semen analysis parameters. Retrospective study conducted at Trakya University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Edirne, Türkiye. Data from 2055 semen analyses collected between January 2014 and December 2019 from 1358 patients living in the Thrace region of Türkiye were analyzed retrospectively. Sperm analysis was performed according to 2010 WHO criteria. RESULTS: Sperm concentration was significantly higher in autumn months compared to spring and summer months (p<0.05). The total motility rate of sperm was significantly lower in winter months compared to other months (p0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Our study showed that seasonal changes in semen analysis parameters, including peak sperm concentrations in autumn and low motility rates in winter, may be related to air temperature, daylight duration, etc., and may prompt further study of environmental conditions on male fertility.
