Integrating the internet of things (IoT) in medical applications has significantly improved healthcare operations and patient treatment activities. Real-time patient monitoring and remote diagnostics allow the physician to serve more patients and save human lives using internet of medical things (IoMT) technology. However, IoMT devices are prone to cyber attacks, and security and privacy have been a concern. The IoMT devices operate on low computing and low memory, and implementing security technology on IoMT devices is not feasible. In this article, we propose particle swarm optimization deep neural network (PSO-DNN) for implementing an effective and accurate intrusion detection system in IoMT. Our approach outperforms the state of the art with an accuracy of 96% to detect network intrusions using the combined network traffic and patient’s sensing dataset. We also present an extensive analysis of using various Machine Learning(ML) and Deep Learning (DL) techniques for network intrusion detection in IoMT and confirm that DL models perform slightly better than ML models.

Internet of Things (IoT) refers to a vast network that provides an interconnection between various objects and intelligent devices. The three important components of IoT are sensing, processing, and transmission of data. Nowadays, the new IoT technology is used in many different sectors, including the domestic, healthcare, telecommunications, environment, industry, construction, water management, and energy. IoT technology, involving the usage of embedded devices, differs from computers, laptops, and mobile devices. Due to exchanging personal data generated by sensors and the possibility of combining both real and virtual worlds, security is becoming crucial for IoT systems. Furthermore, IoT requires lightweight encryption techniques. Therefore, the goal of this paper is to identify the security challenges and key issues that are likely to arise in the IoT environment in order to guide authentication techniques to achieve a secure IoT service.

Several sectors have embraced Cloud Computing (CC) due to its inherent characteristics, such as scalability and flexibility. However, despite these advantages, security concerns remain a significant challenge for cloud providers. CC introduces new vulnerabilities, including unauthorized access, data breaches, and insider threats. The shared infrastructure of cloud systems makes them attractive targets for attackers. The integration of robust security mechanisms becomes crucial to address these security challenges. One such mechanism is an Intrusion Detection System (IDS), which is fundamental in safeguarding networks and cloud environments. An IDS monitors network traffic and system activities. In recent years, researchers have explored the use of Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) approaches to enhance the performance of IDS. ML and DL algorithms have demonstrated their ability to analyze large volumes of data and make accurate predictions. By leveraging these techniques, IDSs can adapt to evolving threats, detect previous attacks, and reduce false positives. This article proposes a novel IDS model based on DL algorithms like the Radial Basis Function Neural Network (RBFNN) and Random Forest (RF). The RF classifier is used for feature selection, and the RBFNN algorithm is used to detect intrusion in CC environments. Moreover, the datasets Bot-IoT and NSL-KDD have been utilized to validate our suggested approach. To evaluate the impact of our approach on an imbalanced dataset, we relied on Matthew’s Correlation Coefficient (MCC) as a normalized measure. Our method achieves accuracy (ACC) higher than 92% using the minimum features, and we managed to increase the MCC from 28% to 93%. The contributions of this study are twofold. Firstly, it presents a novel IDS model that leverages DL algorithms, demonstrating an improved ACC higher than 92% using minimal features and a substantial increase in MCC from 28% to 93%. Secondly, it addresses the security challenges specific to CC environments, offering a promising solution to enhance security in cloud systems. By integrating the proposed IDS model into cloud environments, cloud providers can benefit from enhanced security measures, effectively mitigating unauthorized access and potential data breaches. The utilization of DL algorithms, RBFNN, and RF has shown remarkable potential in detecting intrusions and strengthening the overall security posture of CC.

Solar irradiation (Rs) is the electromagnetic radiation energy emitted by the Sun. It plays a crucial role in sustaining life on Earth by providing light, heat, and energy. Furthermore, it serves as a key driver of Earth’s climate and weather systems, influencing the distribution of heat across the planet, shaping global air and ocean currents, and determining weather patterns. Variations in Rs levels have significant implications for climate change and long-term climate trends. Moreover, Rs represents an abundant and renewable energy resource, offering a clean and sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. By harnessing solar energy, we can actively reduce greenhouse gas emissions. However, the utilization of Rs comes with its own challenges that must be addressed. One problem is its variability, which makes it difficult to predict and plan for consistent solar energy generation. Its intermittent nature also poses difficulties in meeting continuous energy demand unless appropriate energy storage or backup systems are in place. Integrating large-scale solar energy systems into existing power grids can present technical challenges. Rs levels are influenced by various factors; understanding these factors is crucial for various applications, such as renewable energy planning, climate modeling, and environmental studies. Overcoming the associated challenges requires advancements in technology and innovative solutions. Measuring and harnessing Rs for various applications can be achieved using various devices; however, the expense and scarcity of measuring equipment pose challenges in accurately assessing and monitoring Rs levels. In order to address this, alternative methods have been developed with which to estimate Rs, including artificial intelligence and machine learning (ML) models, like neural networks, kernel algorithms, tree-based models, and ensemble methods. To demonstrate the impact of feature selection methods on Rs predictions, we propose a Multivariate Time Series (MVTS) model using Recursive Feature Elimination (RFE) with a decision tree (DT), Pearson correlation (Pr), logistic regression (LR), Gradient Boosting Models (GBM), and a random forest (RF). Our article introduces a novel framework that integrates various models and incorporates overlooked factors. This framework offers a more comprehensive understanding of Recursive Feature Elimination and its integrations with different models in multivariate solar radiation forecasting. Our research delves into unexplored aspects and challenges existing theories related to solar radiation forecasting. Our results show reliable predictions based on essential criteria. The feature ranking may vary depending on the model used, with the RF Regressor algorithm selecting features such as maximum temperature, minimum temperature, precipitation, wind speed, and relative humidity for specific months. The DT algorithm may yield a slightly different set of selected features. Despite the variations, all of the models exhibit impressive performance, with the LR model demonstrating outstanding performance with low RMSE (0.003) and the highest R2 score (0.002). The other models also show promising results, with RMSE scores ranging from 0.006 to 0.007 and a consistent R2 score of 0.999.
