Stavros J. Baloyannis, Professor Emeritus of Neurology at Aristotelian University, Thessaloniki, Greece, born in Thessaloniki. Graduated from the School of Medicine, Aristotelian University. Training in Neurology at Aristotelian University and Institute of Neurology, London. Training in Neuropathology and Electron Microscopy at Institute of Neurology, London, Catholic University of Louvain, University of Pennsylvania. In Acoustic-neuropathology at Harvard University. In Neuroimmunology at Yale University. Research on BBB, Mitochondria in AD, Synaptogenesis, neurodegeneration, dendritic and synaptic pathology, Golgi apparatus in dementias. Special interests: Neuroethics, Neurolinguistics, Neurophilosophy, History of Neurosciences, Neurology and the Art. Member of 60 scientific societies. Hon. Member of the Academy of Hellenic Air Forces. President of the Society for the amelioration of the quality of life in neurological diseases. President of the Orthodox Association for medical mission. Visiting professor at Tufts University, Democritus University, School of Theology, School of Philosophy. Author of 28 textbooks and 725 papers on Neurology, Neurosciences and three books of poems. Head of the department of Neurology (1992-2011) and Director of Research Institute for Alzheimer’s disease.
