Guenter Weiss is the Director and Full Professor of the Department of Internal Medicine II, Medical University of Innsbruck. He graduated with a thesis in biochemistry as an MD from the University of Innsbruck in 1990, and holds tenure for medical biochemistry (1996) at Leopold Franzens Universität für Innsbruck and internal medicine (1999) at Medizinische Universitat Innsbruck. He has published more than 400 peer reviewed publications. His research areas include Clinical internal medicine, Infectious diseases,  Immunology, Iron metabolism and anemia research, and Medical biochemistry. Guenter Weiss is a member of Academia Europea (since 2022) and the Austrian Academia of Sciences (since 2015).  Moreover, he has been awarded more than 30 international awards including the Novartis Award for Medicine and the Otto Kraupp Award for best habilitation in Medicine in Austria.
