The detection of glutathione reductase inhibitors (GRIs) has recently become very popular due to their use as malarial and cancer drugs. Today, steroidal compounds have several clinical roles due to their potent immunomodulating and anti-inflammatory properties. In this study, GR inhibitory capacity of some corticosteroids (dexamethasone, prednisolone and methylprednisolone) has been reported. Amongst these steroidal molecules dexamethasone showed the weakest inhibitory effect on GR enzyme. IC50 values were determined by drawing % activity-[I] graphs for these corticosteroids showing inhibition effects. These corticosteroids have inhibition ranging micromolar for GR with IC50 values. These corticosteroids exhibit very potent inhibitory activity against GR enzyme at low micromolar concentrations when compared to well-known GRIs.

By definition, white noise (WN) is a type of sound that consists of a combination of various frequencies. Noise is an important source of environmental stress for humans and other living things and has a strong stimulating effect on light, circadian rhythm, hormonal, and neuro-behavioral levels. When faced with stressful situations, organisms produce a substantial quantity of free radicals, leading to alterations in the oxidative system. The objective of this research is to examine how environmental stressors like WN and light impact the activities of enzymes involved in testicular carbonic anhydrase (CA), catalase (CAT), and glutathione peroxidase (GPx). A total of 18 male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into three groups. The first was the control group (not exposed to stress, kept at 12/12 light-dark cycle and 24±2°C normal ambient temperature). The second group, known as the WN 60' group, experienced 60 minutes of white noise exposure per day for 14 consecutive days at 90 dB. The third group, referred to as the WN 60' + non daylight group, underwent 60 minutes of white noise exposure at 90 dB combined with 24 hours of continuous light exposure every other day. At the conclusion of the study, the testicular tissues were homogenized and centrifuged, followed by the spectrophotometric measurement of enzyme activities. As a result, when we compared the control group with both WN and WN + light exposure; A decrease was observed for CA enzyme in both applications, and an increase was observed in CAT and GPx enzymes in both applications. As a result, when we compared the control group with both BG and BG + light exposure; A decrease was observed for CA enzyme in both applications, and an increase was observed in CAT and GPx enzymes in both applications.

Background. With insufficient information about the importance of melatonin in human physiology, this hormone is known to be associated with sleep, mood, reproduction, tumor development, and aging. Chronic sleep problems, stress, fatigue, irritability, confusion, tension, and depressive symptoms can be observed in melatonin deficiency. There is no such study in the literature and it is thought to shed light on the literature. The purpose of the study is to examine the relationship between melatonin level and religious orientation, depression level, and sleep quality of students in nursing and different department. Materials and methods. This cross-sectional study was conducted between April 2019 and April 2020. The target population of the study consisted of 1200 students who studying in 2nd grade to ensure harmony and homogeneity in stress, sleep, and melatonin parameters. The sample of the study consisted of 145 individuals who accepted to participate in the study among the 2nd-grade students. Descriptive Information Form, Religious Orientation Scale, Beck Depression Inventory, and Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) scale were used to collect research data. Results. According to the findings obtained from the study, it was determined that the melatonin level of the students was 0.79±0.52 pg/ml, the total score mean of the Sleep Quality Scale was 7.24±3.35, the Beck Depression Inventory was 16.40±10.84 and the Religious Orientation Scale was 47.41±6.05. It was determined that their sleep quality was “bad”; moderately depressed and religious orientation and the melatonin level was below normal. Conclusions. Since the sleep quality total score of the students was above 5, it was determined that their sleep quality was “bad”. It was found that the group was moderately depressed and had a moderate religious orientation. In the study where the standard was accepted as 0.90, it was found that the melatonin level was below normal. It is recommended that the study be conducted in larger groups.
