Rocks in deep coal mines are usually in varying degrees of damage state before they are destabilized by impact loads such as rock bursts. For the problem of the mechanical properties and energy evolution of damaged rocks under impact loads, the authors use static loads with different cyclic load thresholds to act on sandstone specimens to make them in distinct degrees of damage. Then, the rock mechanics system (MTS-816) and the Split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) are employed to perform uniaxial compression and impact dynamics tests on sandstones with different degrees of damage. The results show that, from the perspective of mechanical properties, the uniaxial compressive strength and dynamic compressive strength of the damaged sandstone gradually decrease with the increase of the upper limit of the cycle threshold and both obey the growth law of the quadratic function, and the dynamic strength increase factor (DIF) also decreases with the increase of the cyclic load threshold. In terms of energy, with the increment of the cyclic load threshold, the number of cracks in the damaged sandstone is large and the scale is enormous. Due to the effect of cracks, when the incident energy is a fixed value, the transmission energy decreases with the increase of the damage degree and the change law of the reflection energy is the opposite. The systematic study of the dynamic mechanical properties and energy evolution law of the damaged sandstone provides some reference for the prevention and mechanism research of rock bursts.

At the present time, it is considered to be of major significance to study the gas emission law and stability controls of coal bodies in deeply buried high‐gas coal seams. For this reason, in view of the specific problems of gas emissions caused by unstable rib spalling in coal mine walls, comprehensive research methods were adopted in this study, in order to conduct an in‐depth examination of micropore structure parameters, gas desorption, diffusion laws, and coal stability levels. The results showed that the development degree of the pores above the micropores, as well as the small pores in soft coal seams, was better than those observed in hard coal seams. In addition, the gas outburst phenomenon was found to have more easily formed in the soft coal seams. The coal body of the No. 6 coal seam in the Xieqiao Coal Mine not only provided the conditions for gas adsorption but also provided dominant channels for gas diffusion and migration. The abnormal gas emissions of the No. 6 coal seam were jointly caused by the relatively developed pores above the small holes in the coal body, rib spalling of coal mine walls, and so on. The research results also revealed the evolution law of mechanical characteristics of the No. 6 coal seam under different water content conditions. It was found that the strength levels of the No. 6 coal seam first increased and then decreased with the increase in water content, and the water content level at the maximum strength of the coal seam was determined to be 7.09%. This study put forward a method which combined the water injection technology of long‐term static pressure water injections in deep coal mining holes and real‐time dynamic pressure water injections in shallower holes. Field experiments were successfully carried out.

Energy accumulation and dissipation play an important role during the entire process of rock failure. Some flaws, such as preexisting holes, will influence energy accumulation and dissipation. In order to investigate the energy evolution of coal specimen with preexisting holes under uniaxial compression through numerical approaches, the particle simulation method was used in numerical simulations. In this paper, the energy evolution of coal specimen was theoretically analyzed, and the influence of different hole arrangement, such as diameter, spacing, angle, and number, on the evolution characteristics of energy was also discussed. At the same time, the arrangement of the artificial boreholes for preventing the rockburst was explored. The results show that, compared with the intact coal specimen, the change of diameter, spacing, angle, and the number of holes weakened the coal specimen’s capacity to store energy and release strain energy. When the diameter, the vertical distance, and relative angle of preexisting holes were 15 mm, 10∼15 mm, and 60°, respectively, the energy storage limit reached optimal value. For arrangement of the artificial boreholes, the diameter, spacing, and angle can be designed on the basis of those optimal values. This study has a guiding significance in designing the arrangement of the artificial boreholes for mitigation of rockburst.
