José Manuel Cervantes-Uc is a full-time researcher–professor at the Materials Department of the Scientific Research Center of Yucatan (CICY). He is an industrial chemist at the Autonomous University of Yucatan (1993), with a PhD in Chemistry from the Metropolitan Autonomous University (2005). His current research interests are focused on the preparation and characterization of biomaterials for tissue engineering and drug delivery systems. He has published more than 60 papers in SCI journals, 3 chapters of specialized books, and has supervised 6 doctoral theses and 11 master’s theses; his work has received more than 2000 citations in Scopus. In 2005, he received the Best PhD Thesis Award in Polymer Science by the Mexican Polymer Society (SPM). Currently, he is level II in the National System of Researchers (SNI) of Mexico, a regular member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences (AMC), and secretary-general of the SPM.
