Dr. Sharilyn Almodovar earned a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences with a focus on Virology at the Ponce School of Medicine in Puerto Rico (2006). She was trained as a postdoctoral fellow in the Division of Pulmonary Sciences and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Colorado (2006-2009), where she was promoted to Assistant Professor. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Immunology and Molecular Microbiology at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas. Her research focuses on virus-associated pulmonary vascular diseases, particularly in the context of HIV, SARS-CoV-2, pulmonary hypertension, and asthma. Her research has been supported by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) through K01, R21, and R01 funding mechanisms. Dr. Almodovar currently serves as Guest Editor for "Frontiers in Virology" and the "International Journal of Molecular Sciences".
