Dr. Waqqar Ahmed is a Professor in the Department of Physics at COMSATS University Islamabad, Pakistan, where he leads research in the Materials Laboratory. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Twente, the Netherlands, in 2010, with research focused on the synthesis and field control of non-spherical bare and coated gold nanoparticles. His research interests include nanomaterials, plasmonic and metallic nanoparticles, gold nanostructures, surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS), optical sensing, nanofabrication, catalysis, and functional materials. He has published extensively on the synthesis, characterization, and applications of gold and silver nanostructures, including their use in trace detection, environmental pollutant degradation, antibacterial applications, and optical sensing. His recent research includes tunable gold nanoworms and advanced plasmonic nanostructures for SERS and refractive-index sensing applications. Through his teaching, research, and supervision of postgraduate students, Dr. Ahmed has contributed significantly to nanomaterials and applied materials physics research at COMSATS University Islamabad.
