Dr. Stephanie Lansing is an Associate Professor and Assistant Chair in the Department of Environmental Science and Technology at the University of Maryland. She earned her Ph.D. and M.S. in Food, Agricultural, and Biological Engineering from the Ohio State University and her B.S. in Environmental Science and the University of Oklahoma. She leads the Bioenergy and Bioprocessing Technology Lab at the University of Maryland, researching anaerobic digestion, antimicrobial resistance, microbial electrolysis cells, nanotechnology, gasification, nutrient capture, and modeling. Her waste-to-energy research projects include digesting dairy, swine and poultry manure, food waste, algae, and wastewater in the US, Germany, Haiti, China, and Costa Rica. Her work includes how anaerobic digestion and composting of manure and wastewater affect antimicrobial resistance and post-digestion nutrient capture systems to extract nutrients from complex substrates. She has 20 years of experience assisting farmers and communities with anaerobic digestion of manure, wastewater, and food waste substrates; nutrient management; life cycle assessments; the food–water–energy nexus; and waste treatment. She currently teaches classes in Renewable Energy; Ecological Design; Project-Based Practicum at the Nexus of Food, Energy, and Water Systems; Antimicrobial Resistance and Its Role in One Health; and Sustainable Technologies for Developing Countries.
