Automated digital contact tracing is effective and efficient, and one of the non-pharmaceutical complementary approaches to mitigate and manage the epidemics like Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Despite the advantages of digital contact tracing, it is not widely used in the western world, including the US and Europe, due to strict privacy regulations and patient rights. We categorized the current approaches for contact tracing, namely: mobile service-provider-application, mobile network operators’ call detail, citizen-application, and IoT-based. Current measures for infection control and tracing do not include animals and moving objects like cars despite evidence that these moving objects can be infection carriers. In this paper, we designed and presented a novel privacy anonymous IoT model. We presented an RFID proof-of-concept for this model. Our model leverages blockchain’s trust-oriented decentralization for on-chain data logging and retrieval. Our model solution will allow moving objects to receive or send notifications when they are close to a flagged, probable, or confirmed diseased case, or flagged place or object. We implemented and presented three prototype blockchain smart contracts for our model. We then simulated contract deployments and execution of functions. We presented the cost differentials. Our simulation results show less than one-second deployment and call time for smart contracts, though, in real life, it can be up to 25 seconds on Ethereum public blockchain. Our simulation results also show that it costs an average of $1.95 to deploy our prototype smart contracts, and an average of $0.34 to call our functions. Our model will make it easy to identify clusters of infection contacts and help deliver a notification for mass isolation while preserving individual privacy. Furthermore, it can be used to understand better human connectivity, model similar other infection spread network, and develop public policies to control the spread of COVID-19 while preparing for future epidemics.
The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is a recent research area that links digital equipment and services to physical systems. The IIoT has been used to generate large quantities of data from multiple sensors, and the device has encountered several issues. The IIoT has faced various forms of cyberattacks that jeopardize its capacity to supply organizations with seamless operations. Such risks result in financial and reputational damages for businesses, as well as the theft of sensitive information. Hence, several Network Intrusion Detection Systems (NIDSs) have been developed to fight and protect IIoT systems, but the collections of information that can be used in the development of an intelligent NIDS are a difficult task; thus, there are serious challenges in detecting existing and new attacks. Therefore, the study provides a deep learning‐based intrusion detection paradigm for IIoT with hybrid rule‐based feature selection to train and verify information captured from TCP/IP packets. The training process was implemented using a hybrid rule‐based feature selection and deep feedforward neural network model. The proposed scheme was tested utilizing two well‐known network datasets, NSL‐KDD and UNSW‐NB15. The suggested method beats other relevant methods in terms of accuracy, detection rate, and FPR by 99.0%, 99.0%, and 1.0%, respectively, for the NSL‐KDD dataset, and 98.9%, 99.9%, and 1.1%, respectively, for the UNSW‐NB15 dataset, according to the results of the performance comparison. Finally, simulation experiments using various evaluation metrics revealed that the suggested method is appropriate for IIOT intrusion network attack classification.

We focus on performing object detection in images taken under low-light conditions, which is critical task and often occurs in mobile multimedia computing environment. Unlike former methods to obtain enhanced images before detection with variant kinds of manually designed filters, we propose an edge computing and multi-task driven framework to complete tasks of image enhancement and object detection with fast response. The proposed framework consists of two stages, namely cloud-based enhancement stage and edge-based detection stage. In cloud-based enhancement stage, we establish connection between mobile users and cloud servers to input rescaled and small-size illumination parts of lowlight images, where enhancement subnetworks are dynamically combined to output several enhanced illumination parts and corresponding weights based on low-light context of input images. During edge-based detection stage, cloud-computed weights offers informativeness information on extracted feature maps to enhance their representation abilities, which results in accurate predictions on labels and positions for objects. By applying the proposed framework in cloud computing system, experimental results show it significantly improves detection performance in mobile multimedia and low-light environment.
