Prof. Hong Yu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical & Community Health Sciences at the College of Dental Medicine, Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), USA. At MUSC, she previously served as the Director of the Oral Preclinical Research Facility at the Center for Oral Health Research in 2011–2014, and as a Co-Director of the Laboratory Core at the Center for Oral Health Research in 2014–2017. She obtained her M.D. degree from Beijing Medical University, Beijing, China, and completed her postdoctoral training at MUSC. Prof. Hong Yu’s laboratory focuses on studying molecular signaling molecules that regulate immune response in periodontal disease. She and her colleagues determine how immune signaling molecules regulate the generation of pro-inflammatory cytokine, cell chemotaxis, osteoclastogenesis, and osteogenesis. Additionally, they develop new therapeutic strategies to inhibit the inflammatory bone loss response and promote bone regeneration.
