Donatella
Serafini-Fracassini obtained the Biology Degree cum laude in 1964; after
different positions of Assistant, in 1986 she became a full professor of Botany at
the Experimental Evolutionary Biology Department, MFN Faculty of Sciences, Bologna
University (Italy). She taught, from 1973 and until 2014, courses of Botany,
General Biology, Biodiversity and
Evolution in Biological, Biotechnological, and
Agricultural Degrees. She was a member of the PhD School in Biology and Cell Physiology at Bologna University. After retirement in 2010, she became Honor
Professor of Alma Mater Studiorum, still writing
scientific papers and didactic books. She was a member of professional
societies: COST ACTION 844 Apoptosis and Programmed Cell Death as National
Delegate; ESF Programme 'Protein Cross-linking and Trasglutaminase'; SBI as
national coordinator; SIFV; FESP; IAPTC. She
is elected in the Honor Committee of the International Polyamines Foundation ONLUS.
She organized International Conferences. Disciplines of interest are Botany,
Cell Biology, Developmental Biology, Plant Biochemistry, Plant Anatomy, and Plant
Physiology. Her fields of research are polyamines and transglutaminases in
plants during growth, cell death, pollen, chloroplasts, tubers, in vitro
cultures, etc. She has written 126 articles. She
is an associate editor of an international journal, coeditor of a polyamine issue, and peer-reviewer of international journals.
