In the smart grid, electricity price is a key element for all participants in the electric power industry. To meet the smart grid’s various goals, Demand-Response (DR) control aims to change the electricity consumption behavior of consumers based on dynamic pricing or financial benefits. DR methods are divided into centralized and distributed control based on the communication model. In centralized control, consumers communicate directly with the power company, without communicating among themselves. In distributed control, consumer interactions offer data to the power utility about overall consumption. Online auctions are distributed systems with several software agents working on behalf of human buyers and sellers. The coordination model chosen can have a substantial impact on the performance of these software agents. Based on the fair energy scheduling method, we examined Vickrey and Dutch auctions and coordination models in an electronic marketplace both analytically and empirically. The number of software agents and the number of messages exchanged between these agents were all essential indicators. For the simulation, GridSim was used, as it is an open-source software platform that includes capabilities for application composition, resource discovery information services, and interfaces for assigning applications to resources. We concluded that Dutch auctions are better than Vickrey auctions in a supply-driven world where there is an abundance of power. In terms of equity, Dutch auctions are more equitable than Vickrey auctions. This is because Dutch auctions allow all bidders to compete on an equal footing, with each bidder having the same opportunity to win the item at the lowest possible price. In contrast, Vickrey auctions can lead to outcomes that favor certain bidders over others, as bidders may submit bids that are higher than necessary to increase their chances of winning.

This study presents a new comparative analysis of the cognitive control methods of HVAC systems that assess reinforcement learning (RL) and traditional proportional-integral-derivative (PID) control. Through extensive simulations in various building environments, we have shown that while the PID controller provides stability under predictable conditions, the RL-based control can improve energy efficiency and thermal comfort in dynamic environments by constantly adapting to environmental changes. Our framework integrates real-time sensor data with a scalable RL architecture, allowing autonomous optimization without the need for a precise system model. Key findings show that RL largely outperforms PID during disturbances such as occupancy increases and weather fluctuations, and that the preferably optimal solution balances energy savings and comfort. The study provides practical insight into the implementation of adaptive HVAC control and outlines the potential of RL to transform building energy management despite its higher computational requirements.

The art of benchmarking study has improved at an astonishing rate the scientific research in all areas but mainly in microwave engineering domain, and in particular, the field of microwave (MW) and radiofrequency (RF) integrated circuit design. Moreover, the fast simulation of complex MF/RF structures is considered a big challenge for the simulators, mainly in light of the continuous information and communication technology (ICT) development. In this context, the present paper sets out to present two important numerical electromagnetic (EM) methods, the method of moments (MOM) and our advanced transverse wave approach (A-TWA) for full-wave analysis of RF/MW structures. The computational complexity of these methods is evaluated. Two complex printed antennas working in the RF/MW range are selected and investigated. The EM problems that can be found in these circuits and that could not be solved analytically or by other numerical methods are discussed. The EM-validation of the studied structures using A-TWA and MOM is demonstrated and compared in the context of RF/MW applications. The obtained simulation results prove the efficiency and rapidity of our approach in comparison with the literature.

The integration of 5G technology with cloud and edge computing is redefining the digital landscape by enabling ultra-fast connectivity, low-latency communication, and scalable solutions across diverse application domains. This paper investigates the synergistic impact of 5G on cloud-to-edge architectures, emphasizing its transformative role in revolutionizing sectors such as healthcare, smart cities, industrial automation, and autonomous systems. Key advancements in 5G—including Enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB), Ultra-Reliable Low-Latency Communication (URLLC), and Massive Machine-Type Communications (mMTC)—are examined for their role in enabling real-time data processing, edge intelligence, and IoT scalability. In addition to conceptual analysis, the paper presents simulation-based evaluations comparing 5G cloud-to-edge systems with traditional 4G cloud models. Quantitative results demonstrate significant improvements in latency, energy efficiency, reliability, and AI prediction accuracy. The study also explores challenges in infrastructure deployment, cybersecurity, and latency management while highlighting the growing opportunities for innovation in AI-driven automation and immersive consumer technologies. Future research directions are outlined, focusing on energy-efficient designs, advanced security mechanisms, and equitable access to 5G infrastructure. Overall, this study offers comprehensive insights and performance benchmarks that will serve as a valuable resource for researchers and practitioners working to advance next-generation digital ecosystems.

The bandwidth demand in mobile wireless applications has grown at an astounding rate due to the fast evolution of technology, spurring the antenna design fields. The approaches associated with realizing antenna structure at mm-Wave frequency bands for future 5G cellular devices present advantages and disadvantages. This paper exhibits a fast and original approach based on the transverse wave formulation called-up Advanced Transverse Wave Approach (ATWA). A compact 5G patch antenna is designed, measured, simulated, and analyzed in the context of unlicensed mm-wave ISM-band applications. Compared to recently published works, the obtained result analysis proves the efficiency of the proposed method in terms of calculation accuracy, computational efficiency, and peak memory usage and the overall good performance of the proposed antenna.
