SMEs are small and medium-sized enterprises that arise from an idea of marketing a product or service. The growth of these companies entails an increase in the complexity of their organization. From the increase in internal structure to the relationship with some external actors, such as regulatory and fiscal entities, it poses challenges for which adequate preparation is not always available or the most efficient path to address them is not clear. An example of this can be seen with the management of company assets, which is often rudimentary and there is no quantified notion of the criticality of assets for the SME’s business. Through an Asset Management Model, an SME can chart a path towards efficient use of its assets, avoiding unnecessary expenses in repairs, as well as problems that can affect business continuity. This better use of assets results in greater value to the SME’s business model. This technical note proposes a methodology for the implementation of Asset Management based on the INTE/ISO 55001 standard. The objective is to adapt the different steps for the early implementation of Asset Management Models that are common in large consolidated companies to small and medium-sized enterprises. This methodology was validated in a real case study in a medium-sized company in Costa Rica. The results not only showed the rudimentary asset management in SMEs but also the viability of implementing an Asset Management Model in early stages of SMEs.

The considerable wind resource present in Costa Rica is exploited on a large scale by the various electricity companies in the country for power generation. However, the use of smaller-scale turbines for the supply of energy to homes or small industries is rarely observed. There is limited information available to conduct feasibility studies for the installation of small-scale wind turbines, despite the existence of multiple commercial turbine models on the market. This study presents a comparison of electricity generation projections for different small-scale commercial turbines. To calculate generation projections, wind speed data from 36 meteorological stations distributed across Costa Rica were used, along with wind speed projections at different heights. Using the power curves of various commercial turbines available on the market, their projected Annual Energy Production (AEP) at different heights was obtained. The results obtained can be used to conduct feasibility studies for the installation of small-scale turbines. This information is highly valuable for decision-making in smallscale wind energy utilization projects.

Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) is a well-established methodology used in Systems Engineering as a decision support tool. However, in large case bases containing numerous similar cases, the retrieval process often yields solutions with low diversity, limiting the usefulness of the system in complex decisionmaking scenarios. This work introduces a novel approach to case base maintenance that enhances diversity while preserving retrieval effectiveness. The proposed method separates the description and solution spaces and applies a modified Condensed Nearest Neighbor (CNN) algorithm to generalize and reindex similar cases. Rather than deleting redundant cases, the approach integrates them into parent-child structures, maintaining a wide range of solutions while reducing redundancy in descriptions. A case study in predictive maintenance system design demonstrates the method's effectiveness. Results show that the case base size can be reduced by 82.14 %, while improving the diversity of retrieved solutions by 132.96 % and maintaining over 95 % of the original coverage. This approach supports more robust and diverse retrieval outcomes, ultimately enhancing decision support capabilities. The method offers a scalable and efficient solution to the challenge of diversity in CBR, making it a valuable contribution to Systems Engineering and other domains where knowledge reuse is critical.
