The increasing frequency and severity of agricultural fires pose significant threats to food security, economic stability, and environmental sustainability. Traditional fire-detection methods, relying on satellite imagery and ground-based sensors, often suffer from delayed response times and high false-positive rates, limiting their effectiveness in mitigating fire-related damages. In this study, we propose an advanced deep learning-based fire-detection framework that integrates the Single-Shot MultiBox Detector (SSD) with the computationally efficient MobileNetV2 architecture. This integration enhances real-time fire- and smoke-detection capabilities while maintaining a lightweight and deployable model suitable for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)-based agricultural monitoring. The proposed model was trained and evaluated on a custom dataset comprising diverse fire scenarios, including various environmental conditions and fire intensities. Comprehensive experiments and comparative analyses against state-of-the-art object-detection models, such as You Only Look Once (YOLO), Faster Region-based Convolutional Neural Network (Faster R-CNN), and SSD-based variants, demonstrated the superior performance of our model. The results indicate that our approach achieves a mean Average Precision (mAP) of 97.7%, significantly surpassing conventional models while maintaining a detection speed of 45 frames per second (fps) and requiring only 5.0 GFLOPs of computational power. These characteristics make it particularly suitable for deployment in edge-computing environments, such as UAVs and remote agricultural monitoring systems.

Poplar (Populus) trees are indispensable to various industries and environmental sustainability efforts. They are widely utilized for paper production, timber, and windbreaks, while also playing a significant role in carbon sequestration. Given their economic and ecological importance, the effective management of diseases is crucial. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), renowned for their ability to process visual data, are pivotal in accurately detecting and classifying plant diseases. This study presents a domain-specific dataset of manually collected images of diseased poplar leaves from Uzbekistan and South Korea, ensuring geographic diversity and broader applicability. The dataset includes four disease classes, i.e., “Parsha (Scab),” “Brown spotting,” “White-Gray spotting,” and “Rust,” which represent common afflictions in these regions. To advance research efforts, this dataset will be made publicly accessible, providing a valuable resource for the scientific community. Leveraging the cutting-edge YOLOv9c model, a state-of-the-art CNN architecture, we applied the Histogram Equalization technique as a preprocessing step to enhance the image quality to increase the accuracy of disease detection. This method not only improves the diagnostic performance of the model but also provides a scalable solution for monitoring and managing poplar diseases. By ensuring the health of poplar trees, this approach supports the sustainability of these critical resources. To our knowledge, this is the first publicly available dataset specifically focused on diseased poplar leaves, making it a significant contribution to global research efforts. It offers an invaluable resource for researchers and practitioners, enabling further advancements in early disease detection and sustainable forestry management.

Surface electromyography (sEMG) signals are important for assessing muscle activity, neuromuscular behavior, and movement stability. sEMG signals are widely used in athlete performance monitoring and human–machine interface applications. However, existing methods have limitations in classification, accuracy and generalization across users. In this study, a real-world dataset was generated from 30 professional wrestlers using an 8-channel system based on 10 physical movements and technical elements. Nine time-domain and energy features, mean absolute value (MAV), integrated EMG (IEMG), root mean square (RMS), simple square integral (SSI), fourth power (4POW), wavelength (WL), difference absolute standard deviation (DASDV), variance (VAR), and average amplitude change (AAC), were systematically evaluated separately and in combination. Five classifiers were compared: Logistic Regression (LR), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Random Forest (RF), k-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), and Neural Networks (NNs). The models were evaluated for accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and F1-score. The generalization ability was analyzed through cross-subject (24/6) and cross-session validation protocols. The nine feature combinations achieved the highest classification accuracy of 97.8% with the RF algorithm. The proposed approach can serve as a practical basis for real-time muscle activity monitoring, movement classification, and rehabilitation systems.

Urban-forest monitoring increasingly requires intelligent sensor-driven systems capable of characterizing short-term tree responses while operating efficiently within Internet of Things (IoT) and edge-computing environments. This study proposes a fusion-based artificial intelligence framework that integrates Quantization-Aware Training (QAT)-optimized PointNet++ models with machine-learning regression to predict a short-term dendrometer-derived stem-diameter response expressed in biomass-equivalent units. The framework combines 1024-point LiDAR tree representations, geometric measurements, and environmental sensor data through three components: QAT-optimized PointNet++ models for 34-species classification and trunk–crown part segmentation, frozen model-based prediction and geometric feature extraction, and MLP and XGBoost regression models for prediction of the short-term target. The dataset contained 2694 trees from five regions of South Korea, with the target derived from dendrometer-based stem-diameter measurements recorded over a 14-day interval between 8 September 2022 and 22 September 2022. Importantly, this short-term signal reflects both structural and reversible water-status-related stem dynamics and is therefore not interpreted as direct dry-biomass accumulation or carbon sequestration. The QAT-optimized models retained 92.52% segmentation accuracy (82.67% mIoU) and 80.46% species-classification accuracy, while the regression model reached R2 = 0.9663 and RMSE = 0.4437 kg for the defined biomass-equivalent target. Quantization reduced the saved model size of both encoders by approximately 10.5× (21 MB → 2 MB) and accelerated CPU inference by up to 4.1×. These efficiency measurements were obtained on an ×86 desktop CPU and therefore characterize computational compression benefits rather than completed deployment or field validation on a low-power embedded device. These results demonstrate the computational feasibility of combining compressed point-cloud perception with multimodal prediction of short-term dendrometer-derived stem dynamics. Validation over seasonal and multi-year periods using independent biomass-reference measurements would be required before extending the framework to long-term biomass accumulation or carbon-sequestration assessment.

Electromyography (EMG)-based sensing is an important tool for assessing neuromuscular activity and monitoring athlete development; its reliability depends on electrode placement, signal quality, and accurate identification of muscle activation periods. This study proposes an intelligent EMG sensing framework integrating preliminary electrode placement assessment, muscle activity detection, feature extraction, and regression-based progression prediction. A placement assessment indicated that positioning the electrode adjacent to the innervation zone produced the highest RMS under the tested conditions. A two-stage activity detection method based on clustering and probabilistic modeling achieved an average error of 1.5% and a temporal deviation of 19 ms. Nine time-domain EMG features extracted from the detected activity segments were used to characterize athlete progression and estimate the time required to reach a reference neuromuscular profile. Among the methods, Linear Regression provided the best fit to the data, obtaining R2 = 0.987 and RMSE = 4.21 and suggesting a predominantly linear relationship between the EMG-derived features and training duration within the dataset. However, these results were obtained from only six longitudinal observation periods for a single representative athlete, with each period represented by a 90-dimensional EMG feature vector derived from the ten movement classes. Therefore, the results should be interpreted as preliminary, athlete-specific goodness-of-fit findings rather than evidence of generalizable predictive performance. Validation using larger longitudinal cohorts and independent datasets is required. The proposed framework is compatible with future IoT-enabled wearable and edge-computing architectures; however, hardware-level implementation was beyond the scope of this study.
