Tuberculosis (TB) is an important public health issue worldwide. However, evidence concerning the impact of environmental factors on TB is sparse. We performed a retrospective analysis to determine the spatiotemporal trends and geographic variations of, and the factors associated with, the TB prevalence in Inner Mongolia. We performed a retrospective analysis of the epidemiology of TB. A Bayesian spatiotemporal model was used to investigate the spatiotemporal distribution and trends of the TB prevalence. A spatial panel data model was used to identify factors associated with the TB prevalence in the 101 counties of Inner Mongolia, using county-level aggregated data collected by the Inner Mongolia Center for Disease Control and Prevention. From January 2010 to December 2014, 79,466 (6.36‱) incident TB cases were recorded. The TB prevalence ranged from 4.97‱ (12,515/25,167,547) in 2014 to 7.49‱ (18,406/ 24,578,678) in 2010; the majority of TB cases were in males, and in those aged 46–60 years; by occupation, farmers and herdsmen were the most frequently affected. The Bayesian spatiotemporal model showed that the overall TB prevalence decreased linearly from 2010 to 2014 and occupation-stratified analyses yielded similar results, corroborating the reliability of the findings. The decrease of TB prevalence in the central-western and eastern regions was more rapid than that in the overall TB prevalence. A spatial correlation analysis showed spatial clustering of the TB prevalence from 2011 to 2014 (Moran’s index > 0, P < 0.05); in the spatial panel data model, rural residence, birth rate, number of beds, population density, precipitation, air pressure, and sunshine duration were associated with the TB prevalence. The overall TB prevalence in Inner Mongolia decreased from 2010 to 2014; however, the incidence of TB was high throughout this period. The TB prevalence was influenced by a spatiotemporal interaction effect and was associated with epidemiological, healthcare, and environmental factors.

This study aims to assess the survival status of patients with Primary gallbladder cancer (PGC) and analyze the prognosis factors to facilitate the exploration of the prevention and therapeutic strategies of PGC. Data from 2433 PGC patients collected from 2010 to 2015 were extracted from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. The SEER∗Stat, SPSS 23.0 and GraphPad Prism 8 were used for statistical analyses. Kaplan Meier analysis was performed for the survival curve, log-rank test analyses were used to compare the survival rate difference and Cox regression analyses were performed to determine the prognosis factors. A total of 2433 PGC cases were reported from 2010 to 2015. The median age was 64.2 ± 10.4 years old and the percentages of the white patients were 73.7% (1794/2433). The percentage of patients who received surgery treatment was 82.1% (1998/2433). The overall median survival time of all patients was 19 months and the 5-year survival rate was 28.8%. The 5-year survival rate of PGC patients in pN2 stage dropped to 0% and the 5-year survival rate for PGC patients with distant metastasis was only 2.7%. Age, tumor size, grade, pT stage, pM stage were risk factors for prognosis, surgery or not and radiation or not were protective factors for prognosis. Survival analysis of PGC patients based on the SEER database have provided an opportunity for understanding PGC prognosis and the basis for the exploration of viable PGC prevention and therapeutic strategies.

Hypertension is a major risk factor for the global burden of disease, particularly in countries that are not economically developed. This study aimed to evaluate risk factors associated with self-reported hypertension among residents of Inner Mongolia using a cross-sectional study and to explore trends in the rate of self-reported hypertension. Multi-stage stratified cluster sampling was used to survey 13,554 participants aged more than 15 years residing in Inner Mongolia for the 2013 Fifth Health Service Survey. Hypertension was self-reported based on a past diagnosis of hypertension and current use of antihypertensive medication. Adjusted odds risks (ORs) of self-reported hypertension were derived for each independent risk factor including basic socio-demographic and clinical factors using multivariable logistic regression. An optimized risk score model was used to assess the risk and determine the predictive power of risk factors on self-reported hypertension among Inner Mongolia residents. During study period, self-reported hypertension prevalence was 19.0% (2571/13,554). In multivariable analyses, both female and minority groups were estimated to be associated with increased risk of self-reported hypertension, adjusted ORs (95% CI) were 1.22 (1.08, 1.37) and 1.66 (1.29, 2.13) for other minority compared with Han, increased risk of self-reported hypertension prevalence was associated with age, marital status, drinking, BMI, and comorbidity. In the analyses calculated risk score by regression coefficients, old age (≥71) had a score of 12, which was highest among all examined factors. The predicted probability of self-reported hypertension was positively associated with risk score. Of 13,421 participants with complete data, 284 had a risk score greater than 20, which corresponded to a high estimated probability of self-reported hypertension (≥67%). Self-reported hypertension was largely related to multiple clinical and socio-demographic factors. An optimized risk score model can effectively predict self-reported hypertension. Understanding these factors and assessing the risk score model can help to identify the high-risk groups, especially in areas with multi-ethnic populations.

Objective To track changes of the burden and trends of childhood injury mortality among children aged 0–14 years in China from 2004 to 2011. Design National representative data from the Chinese Disease Surveillance Points system and Chinese Maternal and Child Mortality Surveillance system from 2004 to 2011 were used. Rates and 95% CIs of aged-standardised mortality, as well as the proportions of injury death, were estimated. Setting Urban and rural China. Participants Children aged 0–14 years from 2004 to 2011. Results The proportion of injury among all deaths in children increased from 18.69% in 2004 to 21.26% in 2011. A ‘V’ shape change was found in the age-standardised injury mortality rate during the study period among the children aged 0–14 years, with the age-standardised injury mortality rate decreasing from 29.71 per 100 000 per year in 2004 to 24.12 in 2007, and then increasing to 28.12 in 2011. A similar change was observed in the rural area. But the age-standardised mortality rate decreased consistently in the urban area. The rate was higher among boys than among girls. Drowning, road traffic accidents and falls were consistently the top three causes of death among children. Conclusions Childhood injury is an increasingly serious public health problem in China. The increasing trend of childhood injury mortality is driven by the rural areas rather than urban areas. More effective strategies and measures for injury prevention and control are needed for rural areas, boys, drowning, road traffic accidents and falls.

What is already known about this topic? Cancer is a major global public health problem and the leading cause of death in China. China has a large population, and therefore has a significant proportion of the global burden of cancer. What is added by this report? The age-standardized incidence of cancer has increased in China, while the cancer mortality rate has decreased. Compared with younger age groups, individuals over 70 have a greater burden of cancer. Digestive tract cancer and breast cancer should be targeted for prevention, treatment, and control. What are the implications for public health practices? To effectively reduce the burden of cancer, early screening of key populations and age groups should be strengthened, and targeted and precise prevention and control strategies should be adopted.

What is already known about this topic? Pancreatic cancer is one of the most malignant tumors of the digestive tract, and the etiology is not clear. Pancreatic cancer has a poor prognosis and high mortality. What is added by this report? Compared with 1990, the burden of pancreatic cancer in China increased significantly in 2019. In 1990 and 2019, the disease burden indicator of male pancreatic cancer was higher than that of females, and pancreatic cancer became more common as age increased, especially above 50 years old. What are the implications for public health practices? This study mainly provided scientific data and references for the prevention and control of pancreatic cancer in people aged 50 and above.
