A new procedure, based on the laser-induced plasma spectroscopy (LIPS) technique, is proposed for calibration-free quantitative elemental analysis of materials. The method here presented, based on an algorithm developed and patented by IFAM-CNR, allows the matrix effects to be overcome, yielding precise and accurate quantitative results on elemental composition of materials without use of calibration curves. Some applications of the method are illustrated, for quantitative analysis of the composition of metallic alloys and quantitative determination of the composition of the atmosphere.

About Me
Vincenzo Palleschi is a physicist, Research Director at the Institute of Chemistry of Organometallic Compounds, and Head of the Applied and Laser Spectroscopy Laboratory at Research Area of CNR in Pisa (Italy). He is a world-renowned expert in LIBS. Moreover, he has experience in x-ray fluorescence analysis, micro-Raman spectroscopy, multispectral imaging, 3D photogrammetry, and chemometrics. He has published more than 250 papers; his h-index is 48 (source: Scopus). He was the coordinator of several national and international projects funded by governmental agencies and industry. In 2012, he obtained his qualification as Full Professor in the Experimental Physics of Matter.
