Marwan El Ghoch is currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Biomedical, Metabolic and Neural Sciences University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy. He earned a degree in medicine and surgery (1999–2005) from the University of Bologna, Italy, followed by a diploma in food science (2006–2010) from the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy. Since 2005, he has been registered in the Order of Physicians and Surgeons of the City of Bologna in Italy. In 2020, he earned a European fellowship in obesity management from the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO). He is considered an expert in obesity and eating disorder treatments and has gained international leadership in the study of body composition in anorexia nervosa and sarcopenic obesity. His scientific output includes 124 publications, corresponding to 2366 citations (h-index 27) (Scopus, 13 December 2023).
