Prof. Guang-Ling Song earned his first PhD degree in corrosion and protection from the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He worked there as an associate professor and the head of the Electrochemistry Department until 1995. He obtained his second PhD degree in materials engineering from the University of Queensland, Australia, where he also worked as a senior research fellow and PhD advisor. In 2012, he joined Oak Ridge National Laboratory as a senior research staff. He is now a professor in the Department of Ocean Science and Engineering, Southern University of Science and Technology. He received the Thomson top 1% card in 2000, and in 2020, 2021 and 2022 he was continuously listed by Elsevier as one of the highly cited researchers. He was recognized by Stanford as one of the top 2% scientists in the fields of energy, materials and chemistry. Prof. Song’s research interests concern electrochemistry and degradation of metals in various environments, particularly under marine conditions. He has led many projects in various areas, such as corrosion and protection of alloys, passivity of steels, corrosion and protection of reinforced concrete, underground pipeline corrosion, electrochemical techniques, inhibitors, coatings, surface treatments and electrochemistry of stress corrosion cracking.
