With coastal erosion and the increased interest in beach monitoring, there is a greater need for evaluation of the shoreline detection methods. Some studies have been conducted to produce state of the art reviews on shoreline definition and detection. It should be noted that with the development of remote sensing, shoreline detection is mainly achieved by image processing. Thus, it is important to evaluate the different image processing approaches used for shoreline detection. This paper presents a state of the art review on image processing methods used for shoreline detection in remote sensing. It starts with a review of different key concepts that can be used for shoreline detection. Then, the applied fundamental image processing methods are shown before a comparative analysis of these methods. A significant outcome of this study will provide practical insights into shoreline detection.

This paper presents a methodology of the battery modeling based on experimental tests results. As main contribution, authors conducted an analysis of the main constraints and effects of each parameter of the batteries model on its behavior and lifetime. This can help to improve the accuracy of the model. Due to its capability to model the recovery effect and the rate-capacity one, the Kinetic Battery Model serves as basis of the study. Results of experimental tests are used to realize the analysis and to define the suitable methodology of batteries parameters identification. These last can serve for prediction and estimation of the battery lifetime according to the actual operating conditions, particularly in microgrid and distributed systems.

A 3D modelling is used to obtain the expression of excess minority carrier density in base region of a polycrystalline silicon solar cell. The concept of the junction recombination velocity S f is used to quantify how excess carrier flow through the junction in actual operating conditions. The plot of the photocurrent density allowed study the influence of the grain boundary recombination velocity and grain size on both, the junction recombination velocity and on the back surface recombination velocity of an n +-p-p + solar cell. This study pointed out the importance of the losses at the back side of solar cell. It's also show that the junction recombination velocity is more important for small grain size with large values of grain boundary recombination velocity.

The aim of this study is the optimization of the antireflection effect of SiNx in silicon on glass based structure. A numerical calculation is performed and a SiNx double stack antireflection coating is found to have significant advantages over single-layer due to their broad-range coverage of the solar spectrum. Moreover, it was found that minimum reflection losses is obtained for SiNx /SiNx double-layer ARC with refractive indexes of 1.9 et 2.3 for the top and the bottom layer, respectively. The effect of the incident angle on reflectance is also studied. The numerical optimization procedure and its results are presented.

During its operation time, a photovoltaic (PV) array can be influenced by many factors that can reduce its performance. Consequently, the global yield of the array decreases, induced by photovoltaic faults and failures. It is then an essential matter for manufacturers and consumers, to know and apprehend these factors. In this paper, we investigate different faults affecting a photovoltaic system, from those detectable by visual inspection to those barely noticeable with an eye. To detect such faults, an overview of methodologies commonly used and new existing ones like the synchronized thermography is done.
