Joana L. C. Sousa graduated in Chemistry from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (FCUP) in 2006. Then, she joined the associate laboratory CICECO–Aveiro Institute of Materials at the University of Aveiro (UA) as a research fellow and finished her MSc studies in the fields of Polyoxometalate Chemistry, Nanochemistry and Catalysis in 2009. In 2016, she earned her PhD in Organic Chemistry from the UA. From 2017 to 2022, she developed work as an organic chemist within the MultiBiorefinery and EpigenGlicON projects at the UA. Currently, she is a researcher in the “Molecular Synthesis” group of the Associated Laboratory for Green Chemistry (LAQV)/UA. Her research interests include (i) the synthesis, transformation, and structural characterization of oxygen/nitrogen heterocyclic compounds; (ii) the chemical upgrading of biomass-derived natural products; (iii) the synthesis of bioactive polyphenolic compounds; (iv) the evaluation of in chemical antioxidant and anticancer activities.
