Dr. Janusz Rak, MD, PhD is a Professor of Pediatrics and Biochemistry and Jack Cole Chair in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at McGill University and Investigator at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RIMUHC) in Montreal, QC, Canada. He received his PhD from the Ludwik Hirszfeld Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy in Wroclaw, Poland, and his postdoctoral training from the Michigan Cancer Foundation in Detroit, MI (USA), and University of Toronto, Canada. His laboratory investigates how oncogenic events deregulate tumour microenvironment, orchestrate intercellular communications and trigger vascular alterations and systemic vascular paraneoplastic syndromes in cancer, especially through impacting the biology of extracellular vesicles (EVs). He was among founding members, Board Member and Treasurer of the International Society for Extracellular Vesicles (ISEV) and served as associate editor for the Journal of Extracellular Vesicles and Journal of Extracellular Biology. He currently directs the Centre for Applied Nanomedicine (CAN) at RIMUHC in Montreal and the NET program sponsored by Fondation Charles Bruneau and Fondation CIBC to investigate EV-based biomarkers in pediatric cancer. He also leads projects supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and other sources. He is a foreign Member of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Professor of the Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic, and Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.
