María Teresa Alarcón-Herrera is an environmental engineer, professor, Centro de Investigaciones de Materiales Avanzados, CONACYT. She received her bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the Instituto Tecnológico de Durango. She received her M.Sc. degree in Engineering from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and in 1994, a Ph.D. degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Windsor, Canada. In 1979, he completed a specialization in water treatment at the Institute of Applied Sciences in Toulouse, France, and at the University of Hannover, Germany, in 1985.
