Jean-Frederic Charpentier (SM IEEE) received his M.Sc. and PhD degrees in electrical engineering from the National Polytechnic Institute of Toulouse, France, in 1993 and1996, respectively. Since 2002, he has been an Associate Professor in the French Naval Academy in Brest, France. He is the head of the Mechanical Engineering and Energy Conversion research team (about 10 academics and 10 PhD students) in the Naval Academy Research Institute. His current research interests include design aspects of electrical machines and drives, electrical naval propulsion systems, and marine renewable energy.
