Yusuke Kato studied and earned a PhD in Pharmacology at Hokkaido University, Sapporo, Japan.
He was an Assistant Professor of biology at International Christian University, Tokyo, Japan, from 1990-1991.
He has been a faculty member of the National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (NARO), since 1991.
From 1996-1997, he was a visiting researcher at the Netherlands Cancer Institute (Prof. Ronald Plasterk).
His research focuses on rigorous and fine-tuned gene expression through site-specific incorporation of unnatural amino acids for synthetic biology, including biological containment, recombinant protein production, and live vaccine development.
