Professor Marinella Silva Laport has a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ-Brazil) and post-doctoral at Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB-Belgium). She is Head of the Medical Microbiology Department in the Microbiology Institute at UFRJ and Leader Researcher at the Molecular and Marine Bacteriology at UFRJ. Her group is focused on aquatic bacteriology and microbial biotechnology, mainly in the following subjects: sponge microbiomes, bioactive substances (antimicrobials, antibiofilms, biosurfactants, and exoenzymes), and antimicrobial resistance genes in environmental bacteria.
