The purpose of the present study was to determine the relationship between healthy lifestyle behaviors, physical fitness, and coronary risk factors in university students. 320 male and female (nm: 171; nf: 149, respectively) students from a university participated in this study voluntarily. For the determination of body composition and Body Mass Indexes (BMI), subjects’ height, body weight, and skinfold thickness were taken and body fat percentage (% fat) was determined. Healthy lifestyle behaviors were determined using the healthy lifestyle behaviors questionnaire. Indicators of physical fitness included flexibility (sit-up) (F), muscle strength and endurance (isometric knee (KS), back strength (BS) and a total of shuttle (TS), sprint performance, BMI, and body fat percentage (% fat). Coronary heart disease risk factors included mean arterial blood pressure (systolic (SBP) and diastolic (DBP)), fasting blood levels of triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC), hematocrit (HCT), and hemoglobin (HGB). Results indicated subjects have normal body mass index, body fat percentage, SBP, DBP, TG, TCF, BS, and KS. The results of the Pearson Product Moment Correlation Analysis, indicated that SBP, DBP, TG, TCF, BS, and KS for male and female was significantly correlated with flexibility (sit-up) (F), muscle strength and endurance (isometric knee (KS), back strength (BS) and total of shuttle (TS)), sprint performance. (p < 0.01; p < 0.05), In conclusion, the findings of the present study indicated that physical fitness and healthy lifestyle behaviors play a determinant role in coronary heart disease risk factors for male and female students from a university.

The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship of physical activity (PA) level and healthy life-style behaviors in academic staff in Bartın University, Turkey. The short form of International Physical Activity Questionnaire was administered for the determination of physical activity level of academic staff. Their PA levels were categorised as inactive, minimally active, and physically active by using MET method. For the determination of healthy life-style behaviors, Health-promoting Life-style Profile Questionnaire was used with self-actualization (SA), health responsibility (HR), exercise (E), nutrition (N), interpersonal support (IS), and stress management (SM) subscales. Results of Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation analyses indicated significant positive correlations between total physical activity level and exercise (r=0.52; p<0.01) and healthy life-style behaviors (r=0.47; p0.05). The findings of the study indicated that healthy life-style behaviors were not indicators of physical activity level of academic staff. Key words: Academic staff, health-promoting life-style, life-style profile scale, physical activity.

The purpose of this research was to examine the relationship between free time motivation and happiness level of students in recreation department according to some demographic variables. 150 (103 men and 47 women) people studying at Bartın University School of Physical Education and Sports Recreation Department participated in the research. As a data collection tool, the personal information form of the candidates, “Leisure Motivation Scale: LMS” and “Oxford Happiness Scale Short Form” were applied. In the analysis of the data; according to the demographic characteristics of the participants, t-test and ANOVA to investigate the differences between levels of leisure motivation and happiness; Pearson Correlation test and Multiple Linear Regression Analysis was applied to examine relations between variables. In the findings of the research; there was no significant difference in the t-test results according to the “gender” variable in the LMS and happiness total score avarages (p>0,05). There was no significant relationship between LMS and happiness total score averages according to “age” variables in the correlation test results (p>0,05). There was no significant difference between LMS and happiness total score average according to the variables of “income and daily free time” in ANOVA test results. There was no statistically significant relationship between participants’ leisure motivation and happiness (p>0,05). On the other hand, there is a moderate positive relationship were found between happiness and free time motivation in sub-dimensions of knowing and achieving, stimulating life; low level negative relationship were found in the subscales of identity/inference, external regulation (p<0,05). As a result of multiple linear regression analysis; unmotivated, knowing and achieving, stimulating life, identity/inference, external regulation and gender variables together have a significant effect (R = 0,561; R2 = 0,315) on happiness (F(6-143) = 10,945; p<0,05). When the significance tests of the regression coefficients are considered, it is seen that only the free time motivation sub dimensions of knowing and achieving (p<0,05) and stimulating life (p<0,05) are significant predictors on happiness.
