Biography

I worked on plant-soil-microbe interactions for characterization of efficient indigenous rhizobacteria used as biofertilizers to decrease the dependence on chemical fertilizers and pesticides for crop production under sustainable agriculture. During the green revolution, high-yielding varieties of seeds with the application of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides were used for crop production without caring about environmental and soil health. The indiscriminate use of hazardous synthetic fertilizers and pesticides by farmers caused environmental pollution, deteriorated soil health and nutritional quality of grains impact on human health. Plant-soil-microbe interactions are fundamental to ecosystem health and agricultural productivity. In these intricate relationships, plants exude organic compounds from their roots, attracting a diverse array of microbes. Beneficial symbiotic associations, enhance nutrient uptake, bolstering plant growth and stress resistance. Nitrogen-fixing bacteria convert atmospheric nitrogen into forms usable by plants, enriching soil fertility. Moreover, soil microbes play a crucial role in disease suppression, inhibiting harmful pathogens and promoting plant health. Understanding and harnessing these interactions are pivotal for sustainable agriculture, offering insights into enhancing crop yields, reducing reliance on chemical inputs, and fostering resilient ecosystems in a changing world. My research areas are plant-soil-microbe interactions, Plant
